Transformation in Education Begins with Transformation in the Curriculum

Emphasizing that the curriculum is the " roadmap for education " and the main axis of transformation in the educational system, the Deputy Minister and Head of the Educational Research and Planning Organization stated: "In the new curriculum ecosystem, curriculum leaders, as pioneers of this transformation, will continuously stand alongside teachers and school principals to guide and support the correct implementation of curricula."

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Office of the Educational Research and Planning Organization, the opening ceremony of the "New Curriculum Ecosystem for the Junior Elementary School" meeting was held specifically for curriculum leaders from provinces across the country. At the beginning of this meeting, Dr. Ali Latifi, Deputy Minister and Head of OERP, emphasized the important position of the curriculum in the system of education and upbringing, stating: "If we speak of transformation in education, the curriculum cannot be ignored; because the curriculum is the roadmap of education and the school’s path toward achieving educational and nurturing goals."

Referring to the start of a new phase of curriculum transformation based on fundamental reform documents and modern societal needs, Latifi added: "This process is not merely a change of textbooks, but also encompasses a transformation in the way curricula are implemented and the capacity-building of all school personnel." The Head of OERP identified the key difference between the new curriculum ecosystem and past models as a shift in the approach to human resource empowerment, saying: "In the new program, training will not be limited to teachers alone; principals, vice-principals, and other educational and nurturing staff will also participate in the empowerment process." Introducing the role of "curriculum leaders" as one of the most vital pillars of this transformation, he highlighted: "Curriculum leaders are not merely instructors of training courses; rather, throughout the execution of the program, they will continuously be present alongside teachers and school principals, guiding the proper implementation of the curriculum through advisory, guidance, and support." Stating that one of the flaws of past experiences was the disconnection with teachers after holding training courses, Latifi noted: "In the new ecosystem, this gap will be bridged, and specialized support for teachers will continue through all stages of curriculum implementation."

The Deputy Minister of Education described curriculum leaders as the vanguards of this transformative movement and said: "Transformation does not begin with books, circulars, and directives; rather, it takes shape through aware, motivated, determined individuals who possess a correct understanding of the goals of transformation."

He further stated: "It was decided that all provinces participate in the pilot implementation of this plan to pave the way for its gradual expansion in coming years." In conclusion, Latifi expressed hope that the new curriculum ecosystem will mark the beginning of a new movement in the country's education system and, with the collaboration of curriculum leaders, teachers, and school principals, lay the groundwork for realizing fundamental transformation in education.
