10th grade is late for getting students media literate

Head of Organization for Educational Research and Programing Said: Though, we are attending to media literacy now, but we have been late at it and 10 grade is late for students to get media literate, as it is late for senior high students to get computer literate.

According to the FARS education group, referring to the importance of technology in education, Hojjat-ol Islam Moheyeddin Bahram Mohammadian said in 6th ICDL annual convention: What makes us to pay attention to new technologies and media literacy is our needs; we must train our children for their future. If educational system doesn’t recognize tomorrow’s requirements, it will become an obsolete system.

Hojjat-ol Islam Mohammadian continued: Unfortunately, some of our children are being educated by yesterday’s methods and still are looking for “Hassanak Kojayi” (where are you li’l Hassan, an old folkloric tale) a tale about a boy who returns from school and feed his cow, while agriculture is mechanized today and there has remained no room for such thins amongst all digital games, but some people are stuck to the past and refuse to update.

Speaking about the methods to achieve up to date education, he remarked: We need boldness to risk and plan for tomorrow, so our knowledge should one of tomorrow, too.

Research under secretary of education added: Although writing and reading are basic literacy, but we should not be limited to it, today we are attending to the media literacy, but as the director of educational planning system, I confess that we are late; 10th grade is late for students to get media literate as it is late for senior high students to get computer literate.

Next step in this respect is to design and create a general system for educating technology, said Mohammadian and added:  Our existing courses must be taught based technological science; we believe that ICDL foundation must nationalize technological science in the country; this kind of education should reach such a high standard that messages of Islamic Revolution could be relayed on this background.

Reminding that technology has occupied all aspects of life in the modern world and we should have a correct and comprehensive concept of it, he mentioned: Future of technology belongs to those who are completely fluent in it, but then again it will always be human that is the main element, meaning that we should not conquered by technology, but should become technology creator; those who take advantage of this opportunity should know this a very large field but we should know the rules, for if we don’t, we would only be players and others, game planners.
