12 Iranians to vie at CCBF’s Young Illustrators Competition

Farideh Khalatbari, Director of the leading Iranian publisher of children’s books Shabaviz Company said expanding market for picture books and illustrated titles has motivated the third edition of Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair to launch the inaugural Young Illustrators Competition.

“Illustrators of all nationalities between 18 and 39 years old are invited to submit their works until September 4,” noted Khalatbari adding “two winners, one from China and another from abroad, will be chosen from the 50 best submissions, which will be showcased at CCBF.”

She went on to add that works by the 50 finalists were also available online for the People’s Choice Award, in which trade and public visitors voted for their favorite illustrator.

Of the 50 finalists, 12 illustrators are Iranian nationals who work for Shabaviz company. The Iranian nominees comprise Nasim Azadi, Mohammad Barangi, Mahshid Raghemi, Aylin Bahmanpour, Najva Erfani, Banafsheh Erfanian, Ali Ghorbani Moghadam, Azadeh Madani, Najla Mhadavi Ashraf, Maryam Tabibi, Setareh Motazedi as well as Ghazaleh Bigdeli.

Khalatbari further noted that the Young Illustrators Competition aims to boost creativity in children; “the new section of CCBF will not only encourage innovative minds to create new world but also stimulates dynamism and motivation of young illustrators.”
