2 gold medals for Iranian archers in Bangkok

Nemati claimed a gold medal with 647 points after earning a slot at the Olympic Games by taking silver in the women’s individual event at the Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok on November 8.

Double-Paralympic champion Nemati lost 0-4 to Turkish archer Ozlem Kalay before recovering to win 6-4 in the quarter-finals and with a 6-0 win over South Korea’s Mi-Hyang Lee, she advanced to the finals.

The Iranian archer finished first with 647 points in the women’s individual Recurve followed by China’s Dandanin Lin who won the silver medal with 617 points while the bronze medal went to South Korean Nam-Suk Ha with 544 points.

The para archer has now earned a place for her country in both Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“I will do my best to win honors in Olympic and Paralympic Games simultaneously and I dedicate my gold medal to my family,” Nemati said.

Iran’s Majid Kakoosh also snatched a gold medal in the men's individual compound W1 with 606 points.

South Korean Dae Sung Jang and Dongsub koo ranked second and third places respectively with 647 and 598 points.

Kakoosh said, “I dedicate this success to my wife and my daughter and I owe it to my staff and team-mates for their support and encouragement.”

Attended by 15 countries, the Asian Para Archery Championships Bangkok, (THA) – Rio 2016 Qualification, are underway in Bangkok, Thailand and will last till November 18.
