Mr ali Bagherzadeh, the head of the Organization of the Literacy Movement in a meeting with a group of representatives of the European Union, said that education is an essential element of human rights and is the only area in which no boundaries, such as nationality, race or ethnicity, have been defined. All human beings have the right to have access to literacy, and this is a belief in our nation's fundamental principles. We do not have any discrimination for access to literacy and there are no legal prohibitions on the presence of foreign children at our schools.
The deputy minister of education said that almost all literacy expenses of alien citizens are paid by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and about 22,000 people are covered annually by literacy programs. The share of international institutions in this field is at most 20%, which seems very unfair to us. Today, education should not only be limited to reading and writing, but attention should also be paid to literacyalong with literacy skills, life skills and business skills. So if education for Iranians and citizens of Iran is a right, this is a right to foreigners too.
It is worth mentioning that this meeting was organized in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Alien Citizens and inquiries of the European Union, with the participation of more than 15 representatives of international organizations active in the training of foreign nationals such as NRC, RELIFE INTERNATIONAL, in order to examine the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
