According to the latest statistics, some 19,800 foreign students are currently attending Iranian universities, Director General of Science, Research and Technology at the Ministry's Non-Iranian Students Department Samad Haj-Jabbari said.
More than 3100 of them are paying for their education while around 11,000 foreign students were admitted in universities after taking the national entrance exam and, he added.
He went on to say that the majority of the students are from nearby countries.
The Science Ministry’s policy is to enhance the admission of foreign students as it increases the ministry’s revenues and also shows the country’s capabilities.
