2nd Intl. Iranian Genetics Congress to be held in May

Iran has made considerable advances in science and technology through education and training, in almost all aspects of genetics during the past two decades.

For this, the country is hosting the 2nd International and 14th National Genetics Congress from 21-23 May, 2016 in Tehran, Iran. The congress is hosted by the Iranian Genetics Society and will welcome scholars, researchers, scientists and students from 11 countries.

The congress aims to create an atmosphere of cooperation and scientific thinking among researchers and scholars active in the field of genetics and establish a platform for offering the latest scientific research results, in various fields of genetics in Iran and abroad.

Three workshops on Generation and characterization of induced pluripotent Stem cells (iPSCs), Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis, and Flow Cytometry will also be held on the sidelines of the congress. A cultural-art festival has been organized as well.

The congress will cover a wide range of topics including Human Genetics and Medicine, Plant Genetics, Forensic Genetics and Human Identification, Genetics of Microorganisms, Animal Genetics, Stem Cells, Genetic resources, Bioinformatics, etc.

As many as twenty-one key speakers will address the congress including Nabil G. Seidah, Director of the Laboratory of Biochemical Neuroendocrinology, Canada; Hossein Baharvand, Director of Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology, Iran; Svante Pääbo, Director at the Max-Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany; Annik Prat, staff scientist at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal (IRCM) among other prominent figures.
