The conference takes place from October 7 to 8, 2017 in the Conference Center of the Khoy Governorate, northwest of Iran.
October 2 is named after “Shams Day” in Persian calendar commemorating Shams Tabrizi and introducing this mystical figure of Islamic world on which Khoy hosts annually the domestic and foreign professors and authorities to hold meetings, seminars and conferences on Persian literature and mysticism regarding Shams and Rumi.
“Role of political, social and cultural situations in training Shams’ Character”, “Shams’ education and learning fields in his era”, “Shams Tabrizi masters”, “Shams Tabrizi behavior” and “Shams and Molavi and God’s love” and “Shams and Molavi’s disciples” are topics of this conference.
“Theology, thinking and politeness in Shams’ Maqalat”, “Shams in Molavi’s works”, “Molavi in Shams’ Maqalat”, and “Shams in contemporary art and literature of Iran and world” and “Studies of Contemporaries and Orientalists in Shams and His Connection with Molavi” are other topics of this event.
Eighty six papers were received from leading domestic and foreign figures after publishing of the call for papers for the conference and some 67 of them were finally chosen. Twelve works will be presented in the main hall of the 2-day conference and seven other articles are going to be presented in two panels during the event.
Twenty papers are going to be published in a collection and three articles will finally be acknowledged in the closing ceremony of the conference.
Norwegian ambassador Lars Nordrum, the vice president of Iran for parliamentary affairs Hosseinali Amiri, the secretary-general of Iranian National commission for UNESCO Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, and the director of the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) Ashraf Borujerdi are among guests pf honor of the Third Shams and Rumi international conference.
Shams Tabrizi (1185– around1248) was born in Tabriz. He is a mystic and thinker who is credited as the spiritual instructor and mentor of Rumi and is referenced with great reverence in Rumi’s poetic collection, in particular Diwan-e Shams-e Tabrizi. Tradition holds that Shams taught Rumi in seclusion in Konya for a period of forty days, before disappearing.
The tomb of Shams-e Tabrizi has been in Khoy and was recently nominated to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207-1273) also known as “Molavi” , “Molana” and more popularly as “Rumi” is the celebrated Persian poet; His poems have been widely translated into many languages.
