The following five titles of children books published by Iranian publishers won the acceptance to be listed in the White Ravens annual catalogue of children.
Gouy o Chowgan (Orb and Polo) written by Jamaloddin Akrami, illustrated by Mohammad Haqqani, and published by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA).
Esmesh Chieh (What’s its Name?), a collection of 52 poems by 6 poets, illustrations from 13 Iranian and foreigner artists, and published by Ofogh publications.
Chera Avaz Mikhoni Zanjereh (Why are you singing Zanjereh), written by Babak Saberi, illustrated by Negin Ehtesabian, and published by Touti publictions.
Dasht-e-Parsowa, Houmeyeh Sokout (Parsowa Plane, the Suburb of Silence), written by Maryam Azizi and published by Ofogh Publications.
Safoura Areh and Gholam Bahouneh Gir, Asheghiyat dar Haft Rouz (Being in Love in 7 Days), written by A’zam Mahdavi and published by Houpa.
Each year the language specialists (Lektoren) at the International Youth Library (IYL), in Munich, Germany, select newly published books from around the world that they consider to be especially noteworthy. So far more than 200 Iranian titles have won place in the catalogue.
The world’s largest library for international children’s and youth literature, the International Youth Library is founded in 1949. It has grown to become the internationally recognized center for children’s and youth literature. Books that "deserve worldwide attention because of their universal themes and/or their exceptional and often innovative artistic and literary style and design" are awarded the White Raven label. This year’s White Ravens catalogue contains 200 titles in 36 languages from 55 countries. There are short reviews of all the books available on their website www.ijb.de.
