500 Evin inmates studying for university degrees

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Payame Noor University (PNU) and University of Applied Science and Technology, interested inmates can study in high school, undergraduate and graduate degrees, while they are simultaneously serving their sentence terms in Evin Prison.

He underlined that scientific and cultural development in every society reduces the crime rate; the more educated a society is, the higher is the level of social knowledge, which leads to the less inmate rate in a society.

"If a society is literate and educated, we may witness less inmates inside jails," Yousefi said, asserting that all prisoners of Evin Jail are prepared with opportunities to study from basic to academic levels of education.

"They face no restrictions for education while serving prison terms," Yousefi underlined.
