Seyed Mohammad Beheshti, the Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage Research Center received a cultural delegation of Afghan officials and university professors on Tuesday in his office in Tehran.
During the meeting, the Iranian official and researcher highlighted that progress in archeology needs field studies and researches and Iran will invite Afghans to participate in excavations to be trained on the location.
Beheshti also recounted that his center works on areas like excavations, restoration and reconstruction of the old buildings, anthropology, anthro-linguistics, and preservation of traditional crafts and rituals.
He added that participation of Afghan experts is an effective instructive measure for improving archeology in Afghanistan.
Another step for training the Afghan personnel is to hold joint workshops with University of Kabul and Archeology Institute of Afghanistan to have Iranian professors instruct or lecture in the events, said Beheshti.
The head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage Research Center proposed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed between the neighboring countries to outline all the areas of cooperation in an organized method.
Abdolghadir Teymouri, the Head of Archeology Institute of Afghanistan, for his part, lamented the long years of war which led to destruction and demolition of many historical monuments and sites in Afghanistan and voiced confidence that the help provided by Iran will lead to registration and preservation of the cultural heritage of the country.
Mojtaba Arefi and Soleyman Samadi were the Afghan university professors who asked the Iranian official for academic support of University of Kabul.
The Afghan delegation, during its two day stay in Iran, visited a host of museums and institutes conferring with Iranian officials and researchers.
