Allameh Tabatabayi, Interpreter of Quran, Commemorated in Tehran

The Faculty of Theology and Islamic Teachings of the university hosted the program, which was attended by the university’s chancellor, teachers and students as well as a number of academic figures and intellectuals.

The influence of the great scholar’s thoughts on the development of Islamic thought, and his views on philosophy and the needs of the society were the themes discussed in the program.

Addressing the ceremony, Yahya Yathrebi, teacher of the university’s Department of Philosophy, referred to the important status of the scholar and said, “the love for knowledge and wisdom was rooted in his heart”.

Yathrebi said the Allameh lived a pious life and that is why the scholar's thought leads to the right path.

In his interpretation of Quran, Allameh Tabatabayi also considered various aspects of the contemporary era and trained intellectuals such as Martyr Motahhari, who had a comprehensive knowledge of social issues, Yathrebi added.

The university figure noted that the lack of knowledge is the main problem of the Muslim world and said although the appearance of the extremist thoughts today is the result of the efforts of the enemies of Islam to distort the image of the Divine religion, the lack of knowledge and wisdom among Muslims has also led to deviations.
He stressed that Islamic thoughts should be truly introduced to the world and Allameh Tabatabayi’s thoughts are helpful in this respect.
Seyed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabayi (16 March 1903 – 7 November 1981) was one of the most prominent thinkers of philosophy and contemporary Shia Islam. He is famous for Tafsir al-Mizan, a twenty-volume work of Quranic exegesis, which he worked on from 1954 until 1972.
