Ancient civilization in Bezenjan

According to Iran Daily, Bezenjan has a brick-and-mud mausoleum under a mulberry tree, which is venerated by the locals.

Development projects were undertaken to expand its precincts, which led to the discovery of remnants of an ancient civilization.

However, no significant archeological plan has been implemented in Bezenjan so far and details of the region’s civilization remain buried.

Relics have been discovered on the bank of Bezenjan River and the surrounding gardens.

Bezenjan Municipality also found a number of historical vessels while implementing projects in Bezenjan Park.

According to municipal workers, one of the vessels was smashed as a result of collision with a hydraulic shovel. Police forces and officials of Kerman Cultural Heritage Department immediately arrived and collected the pieces.

Head of Baft Cultural Heritage Department said two jars have been identified there.

Ali Najafinejad added that historical sites are signs of culture and antiquity of a land, which increase the importance of its preservation.

'We have discovered potteries in the region,' he said.

Ahmad Abbasi, an archeological expert, said Kerman province is a land of ancient sites and civilizations such as Jiroft Civilization that dates back to 5th millennium BCE.

A majority of Kerman civilizations have thrived on the banks of rivers. Bezenjan is located on the bank of Bezenjan River.

He said Bezenjan is surrounded by the two civilizations of Jiroft and Bardsir.

The latter includes the ancient hills of Dashtkar and Sarband, which have been registered on the National Heritage List. They belong to the prehistoric era.

Bezenjan is a place with a very small population. The closest major cities include Sirjan, Kerman, Yazd and Shiraz.
