Ancient human remains found in Kordestan

He added the new findings have shed light on the lifestyle and diet of ancient residents who inhabited the region, the Tehran-based English newspaper 'Iran Daily' reported.

'Excavations are still underway in the region under the supervision of Taher Qasimi, who is one of the veteran archeologists in Iran,' he said.

The official said a grave made of stone was discovered in the region, which contains eight human skeletons and a number of teeth dating back to the Iron Age.

Mojtaba Qasemian, an anthropologist involved in the study, said the lab tests have indicated that skeletons belong to adult individuals aged between 16 and 26.

'The results of the study also show that the adults suffered from teeth problems including hypoplasia, which is usually caused by malnutrition,' he said.

He explained that hypoplasia is caused by lack of whole grains in diet.

'The disease is caused by lack of amino acids in the body. Amino acids are found in whole grains,'he explained.
