Under the auspices of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, the oldest school in Daran —Madrese-ye Sangi (Persian for stone school)—was renovated and repurposed into an anthropology museum, IRNA reported, quoting Fereydan Governor Esfandiyar Tajmiri.
Totally 1 billion rials ($30,000) were spent on the project. The museum is divided into different sections, including agriculture, art and culture, historical artifacts and documents and a division for commemoration of Fereydan’s martyrs.
Located in western Isfahan, Fereydan has a long history dating back several thousand years.
“As archeological excavations continue, we learn more about the region’s past,” Tajmiri said.
The county’s governorate is ready to initiate the next phases of the museum’s construction. Part of the budget will be made available before the end of the current Iranian year (ends March 19, 2016).
The museum is expected to become a major attraction for tourists eager to learn about the history and culture of western Isfahan, Tajmiri said.
