Mentioning Mashhad’s selection as the cultural capital of the Muslim world in 2017 by Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Rouhani appreciated efforts by the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and other authorities involved, and said: “This selection should be a motive for providing the city with more services”.
He also referred to attempts to make an atmosphere of fear and terror in the name of Islam in some countries and expressed hope that this opportunity helps promoting moderation and introducing Islamic civilisation, mysticism and culture to the world.
Dr Rouhani also underlined more efforts by national and provincial organs and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting to introduce the city more.
The cabinet also approved forming a policy-making council for the event of “Mashhad, the Capital of Islamic Culture”.
