Arastou Hill embraces 8,000-year-old history

“The site can become a tourist attraction,” he said, according to The English-paper Iran Daily.

Archeological remains provide reliable evidence about the long history and ancient civilization of a region, he said.

“We develop a greater sense of pride when discovering ancient sites since the more the ancient sites are, the more reliable are the evidences of Iran’s rich civilization,” he said.

“Iron Age potteries, food warehouse, and skeletons dating back to over 5,000 years have been discovered in the region, which are testimonies to the age-old history of permanent settlements in Iran,” said Vakili, adding that there is a great need for a site museum near Arastou to maintain and display the artifacts.

Hamed Zargar, an archeologist, said Arastou Hill was first settled during the Neolithic Era.

“The hill has been settled during various eras including the Copper and Bronze Ages, Zargar said.

The discovery of remains of a mill in the region suggests that ancient settlers of Arasou Hill were involved in the industry, said the expert.

“Houses of Arastou Hill have a unique architecture. Similar architecture has been discovered in the Azarbaijan region (in northwest) and central plateau of Iran,” he said.
Alborz province has many tourist attractions and special guided tours should be planned for each of them.

The province, west of Tehran, is home to the picturesque Chalous Road, natural caves, Karaj and Taleqan dams as well as spas, waterfalls and retreats such as Taleqan, Savojbolagh and Nazarabad.
