Bulgaria to expand cultural ties with Iran

"Even before this gathering, Tehran and Sofia were eager to expand cultural interactions," said Seyed Mohammad Beheshti the Head of Iran’s Research Institute for Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) on Saturday in Tehran.

He made the remark in a convention with Bulgarian Ambassador to Tehran Christo Polendakov, the former Iranian Ambassador to Bulgaria Gholam Reza Bagheri, and a host of university lecturers and experts.

Currently the experts and researchers of the RICHT have presented their research plans and the ways to have cooperation as a sign of willingness for cultural interaction, highlighted head of the RICHT addressing the guests present in the gathering.

Marking the importance of exchanging experts between Iran and Bulgaria, Beheshti invited Bulgarian experts and researchers to the next archeology conference to be held in the institute in the coming months.

Gholam Reza Bagheri, the former Iranian Ambassador to Bulgaria, was the next speaker of the convention who recounted that there were documents proving that the history of Iran-Bulgaria ties dated back to 137 years ago, in contrast with the current belief of 120.

Saying that history is part of heritage of countries to be preserved, the former Iranian ambassador to Sofia highlighted that Iran was the 4th country in the world which recognized Bulgaria as an independent state while it took four years for the US to recognize the Republic of Bulgaria.
