Cabinet holds emergency meeting over Mina stampede/Zarif tasked with probing the tragedy with help from Islamic countries

In this emergency meeting, different aspects of the tragedy was discussed and the responsible bodies made some decisions.

The council of Ministers also condoled the Muslims around the world, the Supreme Leader, and the Iranian nation and sympathised with the families of the dead.

The council also stated that the Saudi authorities are responsible for the safety and security of the pilgrims and that the Saudi government must be held accountable for the incident.

Foreign Minister Zarif was also tasked by the council to carry out an inquest on the causes of the calamity and how to prevent such incidents from happening, with the help and cooperation of other Islamic countries.

In the same meeting, it was decided that the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance travel to Saudi Arabia as Iran’s representative and make the necessary coordination.

The council, which was presided by the Interior Minister, consisted of the Ministers of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Health, Intelligence, Roads and Urban Development, and Foreign Affairs. It also comprises of the Head of the Management and Planning Organization, Pilgrimage Organizations, the Red Crescent Society, and Civil Aviation Organization.
