Celebrating World Youth Day 2016 in the Event of the Cultural Night

The Day was celebrated in Anzali, a Northern city of Iran, at the camp site of the Red Crescent Society of Iran. It was attended by 300 youth, Deputy heads of the Iranian Red Crescent Society and Dr Sheida Mahnam, Head of the Social and Human Sciences Department of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.

The Deputy for Youth of the Iranian Red Crescent Society welcomed the representative of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and the volunteers present at the event and explained that the summer camps of the Red Crescent Society were organised in three levels for adolescents, youth and university students, pursuing skills training.
Dr Mahnam the representative of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, then explained about the World Youth Day (12 August), introducing it as an opportunity for observing youth from a different point of view, as well as the challenges and opportunities of their world. She read the message of Her Excellency, Madam Bokova, the UNESCO Director General, saying that “today, youth and identifying the challenges they confront in education and social participation are UNESCO’s main priorities and the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO is striving for preparing programmes in the areas of training and entrepreneurship for youth, to prevent social vulnerabilities, with emphasis on combating violent behavior”. She further commended the activities of the Red Crescent Society of Iran in empowering and encouraging youth for social participation by training them in the fields of relief activities and saving lives. She concluded by expressing her will to strengthen cooperation with the Red Crescent Society of Iran.
The organisers decided to identify track students from among the participating youth, to be awarded with certificates of acknowledgement by the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.
