The Contestable Fund is now open

The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO receives funding from Government. It is able to distribute a proportion of this funding as grants to New Zealand projects which subscribe to the principles of UNESCO and further the Strategic Priorities of the National Commission.

To be successful your project MUST demonstrably contribute to one or more of the following Strategic Priorities of the National Commission:

  1. Contribution to the development of New Zealand’s high quality education system to encourage life-long education for all, for instance in the area of technological change
  2. Engagement of New Zealand youth to be creative and innovative global citizens particularly in the context of sustainability and in the development of resilience
  3. Connecting science, policy and people for a sustainable New Zealand and the Pacific
  4. Promotion of intercultural dialogue and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity with particular acknowledgement of the significant place of Māori, leading to social justice, understanding, and cohesion and harmony within communities
  5. Protection and promotion of our heritage, and fostering of creativity
  6. Promotion of freedom of expression and universal access to information and knowledge.

For this round, the National Commission would particularly welcome applications for activities which contribute to Strategic Priorities 1 and 4 above.

Applications for grants between $5,000 and $25,000 will be considered. Grants for up to $40,000 may be considered for exceptional, high level projects i.e. projects the reach of which throughout New Zealand will be significant.
