Deputy Minister of Education criticizes international organizations on refugee’s education issue

Deputy Minister of Education, Gholamreza Karimi in a meeting in Barcelona criticized the disregarding of the strong efforts of Islamic Republic of Iran on refugee education by International Organizations, in particular the UNESCO. He also criticized the global monitoring report of 2019 on the issue of refugees, where good efforts of the Islamic Republic are mentioned only in a few cases, and none of the actions of the senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been mentioned. The Iranian representative explained in his report how Iran’s Education system has accepted nearly 500,000 refugee students in Iran's formal education system, where they do not only have access to education, but also refugees enjoy high quality education in Iran.

At the meeting, the main challenges facing countries and cities receiving large numbers of refugees, including their lack of access to education, refusal to register refugees by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the shortage of trained refugee teachers and the low quality of education, were investigated and analyzed. Finally, with the agreement of the participating countries, the recommendations were approved by the Barcelona Declaration on the right to refugee education.
