Details of Schools Reopening Explained by Education Minister

The Minister of Education said that the presence of all students in schools from next week is allowed but masks and gloves and observing social distances are mandatory.

"Schools will be disinfected until Saturday and students who have no questions or problems with online or TV education, are not required to attend schools. However, teachers are required to be present at schools. Preschoolers and exceptional students are not allowed to attend schools because they are vulnerable to the coronavirus." Mohsen HajiMirzaei told IRIB.

Referring to the exams for first and second year high school students, he added: "The ninth grade exams are held in person as the students should chose their field of study but we are not decided about whether others should take exams online or not.”

The Minister of Education emphasized that no definite decision has been made yet regarding the reopening of konkor institutes and language schools. “Students and their families should contact school principals for using the schools transportation services.

While asked about the internet charges for Shad Network, he answered that the ministry is trying to allocate free internet for this educational network.

Principals are bound to follow protocols for schools reopening

The education minister said school principals were required to follow health protocols to reopen schools. “The Ministry of Health's guidelines for reopening have been delivered to all schools and must be followed thoroughly. Polls show that 82% of Iranians are familiar with health protocols.”

He added that we have a duty to make the schools’ environment safe, and the school's education council has the authority to make decisions based on the needs of their own students.

“All schools are opened on May 17th and all school staff are present so that students can solve their problems if they have any. Since the first week of March, when the national holiday began, about 70 percent of our books have been taught, and we have had 30 percent to teach in order to complete the school year.”

The Minister of Education added that IRIB helped the ministry to carry out the educational plans during the lockdown. “Later, Shad Network was launched and welcomed by 12 million students while packages were delivered for distance learning in remote areas and where there was no internet access.”
