Dignity of Qur’an commands reading it and acting according it

Deputy of Minister of Education said, referring to the patterns of teaching Qur’an: This official program (teaching Qur’an) must be revised every year, its cons removed and its pros strengthened; in the meantime, supporting educational plan and expanding Qur’an culture requires production of contents matching Qur’an requirements.

Wishing that textbooks festival will be a blissful move, hojjat-ol Islam Mohammadian, head of OERP said in an interview with IKNA: Blessing of Qur’an is in acting according its commands. If we ever wish to live as a human being, a God pleasing human being, we have got to live according to Qur’an. More than anything else, Qur’an is a way of life; it should be learned and used. If we do not use its instructions we gain nothing but harm, as God says in Qur’an.

We should engage Qur’an in our lives and it should be the base of our plans for political and economic systems and that is why it is said that Qur’an is excluded and abandoned, for after all these years, Qur’an is not the background of strategic planning in Islamic Iran.

Neglecting Qur’an

Of course it doesn’t mean that Qur’an has been ignored on purpose, but the problem is that we have not succeeded to fully understand Qur’an and realize its potentials and capabilities, Said Mohammadian.

Qur’an has been sent to man by God. In the other hand it is descended to the level of mankind, so it can be understood and used. So, the Qur’an experts should try to make it reachable and understandable for ordinary people.

Independent field for educating Qur’an

“Why don’t you reflect on Qur’an? Have you sealed your hearts?” This is what Qur’an says about those who ignore it. We need to open our hearts and embrace Qur’an. We should invest our time on Qur’an and the first priorities are children and young adults. As Imam Ali (may God’s praise be upon him) says to his son Hassan (may God’s praise be upon him);” I brought you up and raised you when your heart was empty and every seed putting in there, germinated promptly”; “Hearts of children and young people are ready to accept the seeds we plant”.

Dr. Mohammadian continued, quoting a narrative from Imam Sadegh (may God’s praise be upon him): “You must teach your children several things, one of them is Qur’an and the other is kindness”. Also great prophet of Islam considers teaching Qur’an one of father’s duties. It clearly shows that this divine book and its human making instructions is one of the pillars of Muslims lives.

We need to have an independent field of education called “Qur’an and Islamic Sciences” in our educational system. That is the reason we do not teach Qur’an combined with other subjects, because Qur’an is independently important for us.

Vacuity in Qur’an education

Remarking that such method is part of official program of Ministry of Education, Hojjat-ol Islam Mohammadian said: This program should be revised every year, its cons removed and its pros strengthened. On the other hand expanding culture of Qur’an demands production of contents suitable for Qur’an’s requirements. There were not much of these products during past years, but this year there has been a reform in this field but we still encounter lots of empty spaces in this puzzle.

For the time being, all books are divided into two categories; adults and children and young adults, but we need more specific categories in this respect. We should even bring genders in to these categories.

Attention to Qur’an’s verses and interpretation of Qur’an

We plan to have educational sessions, competitions, entertainment and discussions about Qur’an. Separating educational issues of Qur’an from its stories is a good move, but we could be even more specific, Head of OERP added.

Mentioning that Qur’an discusses all aspects of life, he referred to Roshd magazine and said: it is necessary to involve Qur’an in all educational fields. Roshd magazine is amongst those publications which move on a plan and it should try to cover all aspects of Qur’an, equally.

Teaching methods should be regarded as important as training teachers and beside translation of Qur’an, reflection and interpretation of it should be discussed as well.
