Diverse Foreign Languages to be Taught at Schools

In an interview with Fars News, Hojjatoleslam Mohyeddin Bahram Mohammadian said that selecting a second language is optional according to the national curriculum and the Education Fundamental Transformation Charter and it is not limited to any certain language. He added that at present, German, Italian, French, Russian and English have been approved and there are textbooks for them, reported by OERP Public and International Relations.

He further said that if the legal minimum of students chooses a language other than English in any school, the chosen language will be offered as certain schools in different provinces offer other languages.

He quoted the supreme leader as saying 'insisting on promotion of English at schools is not right' and added that compiling textbooks of other languages for different grades and recruiting appropriate teachers is quite possible.
