ECO conference concludes in Kashan

The Head of ECO Affairs in Iranian Foreign Ministry Abolfazl Mohammad-Alikhani said holding such international meetings in provinces, rather than the capital city of Tehran, provides opportunities for the member states to get acquainted with provincial capacities.

'This year's conference, for instance, can lead to promote Kashan's tourism industry and the other economic potentials of the province which have been so far hidden to the ECO member states,' added the official.

He stressed that Kashan province's package of proposals in cultural, tourism and economic fields was surveyed in the 22nd Conference of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) permanent members and it was decided to further focus on the matter and pursue the survey in other sessions with provincial officials.

Kashan carpet industry and its fabulous rose gardens, as well as the archeological Sialk Hill monuments were in the focus of attention of the representatives of the ECO this year, which in addition to the macro-scale regional issues were discussed and decided about.

It was also decided that Kashan's sisterhood with those cities that share the same cultural and economic characteristic in the other ECO member countries will be surveyed.

Kashan Municipality was the host of this year's ECO conference.

ECO, a regional economic organization, was founded in 1962 by the three countries of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan joined the organization.

The 10-member organization is now making efforts for the improvement of conditions for sustainable economic development of member countries and is active to gradually remove trade impediments in the region.
