Education is a matter of national security

Speaker of the Parliament added: Teaching cannot be compared with other occupations, for it requires love and that is what makes it so special. Education’s ultimate goal must be building a new Iran and to do so, we need to start reforms from education, as it has happened in other countries. Indicating global fast and deep changes he said: Ignoring these changes only brings backwardness, so it is as much important as we pay attention to national security to pay attention to educational changes.

There has been a large amount of investment on education, after revolution and from Supreme Leader to President and the Parliament everybody is supporting educational system so teacher could enjoy a dignified life and thus perform their duties more efficiently.

He then referred to the proposition of the Minister of Education for using public capacity in education and said: Do not hesitate to use public capacity to reduce financial burden of educational system. Considering high expenses of this ministry, it would be better if we reduce staff expenses. We may take advantage of other countries’ experiences on this.

Speaker of the Parliament continued: It is necessary to train teachers capable of using new methods, even though it might bear expenses. Many countries have been pioneer in using new methods; for they realized that development rests on these new approaches. It is also necessary to invest on technical education and encourage students in order to enable them to be employed.  Ministry may provide a plan to reform technical education in a 5 years period and Parliament will support this plan and there can be an article in annual budget for renewing technical education centers, considering that this year is baptized as “Employment Year” by the leader.

We may engage graduates of universities in education, especially when there is no short term reform in recruitment of Farhangian University.

Dr. Larijani insisted on strengthening “teamwork” and said: students should be encouraged to participate in determination of their fates. Schools’ elections could be a practical drill and since presidential election is approaching, it would be appropriate to teach students to go to the poles with their families. Including “Fate Determination Festival” in schools’ calendar will leave a pleasant memory of referendums for students and reminds them of importance of elections and democracy.
