Ferdowsi, Homer conference to be held in Iran, Cyprus

Mohammad Jan Pass told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Friday that the conference on Homer and Ferdowsi is expected to be held in Iran and Cyprus every alternate year.

Homer is the name of the ancient Greek author of two epic poems Iliad and the Odyssey. It is generally believed that the poems were composed at some point around the late 8th or early 7th century B.C.

Ferdowsi (935 A.D.) was a Persian poet and the author of Shahnameh, which is the world's longest epic poem created by a single poet.

Two cities of Cyprus—Nicosia and Larnaca—will host the two-day conference, Jan Pass said.

He also said that the association has decided to publish a bimonthly magazine on some Iranian novels and epic poetry in English.

From the 70 friendship associations having been formed between Iran and other countries, the Iranian-Cyprus association is the only one that is participating in the 31st Tehran International Book Fair, Jan Pass said .

Tehran International Book Fair, spanning an area of 130,000 square meters, was opened to public on May 2 and will run until May 12. A number of publishers from Germany, China, Italy, Oman, Hungary, Austria, Russia and Iraq are also presenting their books in the fair.

Serbia is the guest country and Tunis (the capital city of Tunisia) is the guest city of the Tehran International Book Fair.
