In a meeting with Abouzar Ebrahimi-Torkaman, head of Iran's Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the Greek minister said that his country is eager to boost ties with Iran given the growth of extremism and escalation in the region and the world.
'Dialogues among religions are very important as the exchange of views among religious scholars can play a major role in making the nations familiar with one another's views on eliminating extremism and radicalism,' he said.
The minister also described boosting scientific ties between academic centers in Iran and Greece as important and called for more contact between the two countries' academic communities.
Ebrahimi-Torkamn, for his part, said that the myriads of cultural commonalities of Iran and Greece are the main bond between the two nations.
He is visiting Greece to take part in the 7th round of dialogues between Islam and orthodox Christianity (April 26-28) that is underway in Volos.
The Iranian official has also met with Athens Archbishop Ieronymos II.
