Though classes have resumed in the university, situated in the eastern state of Bihar, the ancient varsity is being revived as a centre for excellence in learning with aid from several countries.
Portugal has become the 17th country to have signed such a pact with India, the sources said, adding other countries include China, Australia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
The university came into existence again, with the notification of the Nalanda University Act on November 25, 2010, and it began its first academic session last year with 15 students.
