International Relations Students Navigate Through UN Website

The UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who conducted this workshop, elaborated on the origin and history of the UN and introduced the United Nations Seventieth Anniversary as well as the bilingual (English/Persian) UNIC websites.
During the workshop the participants learned how to find and retrieve UN information on the UN and Dag Hammarskjold Library pages on the web. The websites of the main organs of the UN especially the General Assembly and the Security Council were introduced in detail. A focus was made on the recently adopted Security Council resolution 2231 on the issue of non-proliferation related to Iran.
Overview and methods of searching through some of Dag Hammarskjold Library resources and databases such as UNBISNET, UN-I-QUE: UN Info Quest  and Official Document System (ODS) were included in the programme of the workshop. The students learned to find the text of resolutions of UN main organs, voting records and index to speeches (verbatim records) related to each resolution through UNBISNET. They also found out how to narrow a search on different subjects such as "Genocide” through ODS.
One of the participants Mr. Amar Islamkhah expressed his satisfaction from the workshop and hoped to have a Model United Nations session in cooperation with UNIC Tehran at Islamic Azad University – Karaj Branch during the current year which marks 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
 Workshops "Finding UN Information and Documentation” are regularly organized by the UNIC for all interested groups.
