An interview with Dr Hassan Setayesh on the Islamic revolutionary virtues in the national curriculum of Islamic republic of Iran.

Q: many people ask why the educational system cannot instruct their children with the necessary characters the society required according to modern citizenship, general qualities and Islamic virtues, while developing curriculum and greatly investigating on its own duties.

A: in responding this question it can be said if we review the issue and pathologize it, we will recognize that the main difficulty in the life of education is that the school textbooks have been written based on the compilers’ tastes, not any general curriculum due to the philosophy of Islamic education. Therefore the necessity of a national curriculum implied the virtues and revolutionary goals in the curriculum is revealed. Thus campaigning against the invasions and soft war of enemies, radically enlightening and keeping the martyrs’ blood and attainments, virtues and goals of Islamic revolution, we can embark to educate the students with revolutionary traits.

Q: Is the national curriculum of Islamic republic of Iran officially compiled to attain these aims?

A: One of the ways developing revolutionary spirit and reinforcing and continuing Islamic revolution is diffusing and developing it in school curriculums and textbooks and specially the national curriculum. But in this curriculum the theoretical foundations go whole hog on the nature of man under education, but its detailed aims are not raised from those foundations.

Generally glancing to the national curriculum we can basically find the national curriculum designers neglected to include revolutionary features for community in it. That is because many revolutionary characters either doesn’t exist or completely faint, and unfortunately such a request of Imam Khomeini and the supreme leader has been suspended in this great national curriculum.

Q: can you list some of the characteristics of a revolutionary feature?

A: of course, the virtues like faith, hope, devotion, sacrifice, courage, determination, perseverance, justice, fairness, humility, ambition, sense of indebtedness to God and sincere service motivation is the most important characteristics of a revolutionary features, and national curriculum must provide the ground of cultivating such people trained and strengthen the spirit of religious and revolutionary youth so that can correctly conduct and have proper orientation against the nuisance of the enemies. Keeping and continuing the Islamic revolution as the most important attainment of martyrs’ blood being revolutionary in the political, social, cultural, economical and the military scenes are some points must be included in the detailed aims of the national curriculum. in this respect we can  take advantage of revolutionary ideas of Islam specially the political divine testament of Imam Khomeini  .
