According to the Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT), the Asia-Europe recent research book, with the subject of undergoing research projects in the Asia-Europe area has been published in English under the initiative of the Asia-Europe Department of the German Archeology eight pages of which are devoted to Iran.

On the pages allocated to historical sites in Iran, the year 1338 (1959-1960) has been mentioned as the beginning of archeological field activities of the German Archeology Institute in the Sassanid Takht-e Soleyman temple.

It is said in the mentioned book that the German Archeology Institute two years later founded the separate Tehran Department which conducted comprehensive explorations in Firouzabad, Bisotoun and Bastam and along those activities also implemented surveys and made broad documentation in parts of Iran. The Tehran Department was later turned into the Asia-Europe Department and in the year 1379 (1980 – 1981) formed a framework for the field research works with the Iranian scientists.

More had been written on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the branch and the joint research cooperation that has been supported by the branch which was marked at “Tehran 50” exhibition in the Berlin State Museum.

The photo archives of the primary Department of Tehran are now being preserved at the Asia-Europe Department in Berlin. The archives include about forty thousand negatives from important sites in Iran. Part of the documentation is available online at the Arachne database at www.arachne.unikoeln.de.
