Iran’s top scientific institute to work with major German counterparts

The decision was in line with the policy of expanding international collaborations in a recent meeting held in Tehran by INSF President Nosratollah Zargham and the heads of DFG and MPG.

During the meeting, Zargham highlighted the fundamental policy of INSF in utilizing the maximum national and international scientific and financial resources.

Underlining the significance of international scientific relations, INSF’s president provided a brief review of his foundation’s collaborations with international science foundations and academies.

Dr. Jörg Schneider, DFG’s head of international affairs, described his visit to Tehran as a new chapter in German-Iranian scientific collaborations resulting from an abundance of requests from the German scientific society.

He hoped by defining joint projects between INSF and DFG, German and Iranian scientists would be able to expand their cooperation.

Later in the meeting, Dr. Felix Kahle, head of the department of international relations at Max Planck Society, emphasized the role of bilateral collaborations.

Stating that there are 240 Iranian scientists working at different Max Planck institutes, Dr. Kahle mentioned that the main goal is to inform German and Iranian scientists of the advantages of scientific collaborations.

At the end of the meeting the parties concluded that a memorandum of understanding should be prepared in near future, enabling scientists in both countries to conduct joint research projects.

‎ The DFG is the self-governing organization for science and research in Germany. It serves all branches ‎of science and the humanities. In organizational terms, the DFG is an association under private law. Its ‎membership consists of German research universities, non-university research institutions, scientific ‎associations and the Academies of Science and the Humanities, and it receives the large majority of its ‎funds from the federal government and the states, which are represented in all grants committees.‎

The Max Planck Society is Germanys most successful research organization. Since its establishment in ‎‏1948‏‎, no fewer than ‎‏18‏‎ Nobel laureates have emerged from the ranks of its scientists, putting it on a ‎par with the best and most prestigious research institutions worldwide. The more than ‎‏15,000‏‎ ‎publications each year in internationally renowned scientific journals are proof of the outstanding ‎research work conducted at Max Planck Institutes – and many of those articles are among the most-‎cited publications in the relevant field.‎
