Iran attends 13th UN Biodiversity Conference

Department of Environment deputy for natural environment and biodiversity Farhad Dabiri heading a delegation consisting of Foreign Ministry and Agriculture Jihad Ministry representatives is in Mexico to take part in UN Biodiversity Conference and the related protocols of Kartahna.

The opening ceremony of the event was held in the presence of ministers and deputies of the Department of Environment, international institutions and organizations active in environmental field for the first time in the history of Biodiversity Conventions.

During the first day of the event, Dabiri elaborated on Iran's successful experience in implementing a sustainable agriculture project in Oroumieh (Urmia) Lake area basin with participation of local societies especially women and the youth.

He emphasized the necessity of developing synergy among biodiversity and agricultural organizations to achieve sustainable agriculture, the necessity of awareness and using new technologies and long-term planning in pursuing biodiversity protection parallel with sustainable agriculture.
