Iran Book of the Year Award winner expounds on Iran’s culture in Italy

According to the Tehran-based English newspaper Iran Daily, the book illustrates many events, historical figures and mythological heroes of Iranian civilization.

It recounts the history of relations between Iran and the ancient Rome and refers to the symbols of Iranian culture in the heart of the Roman culture. It was selected as a top book of the 23rd Islamic Republic of Iran’s Book of the Year World Award in the Iranian Studies section.

Using historical evidences and documents in this work, the author describes a variety of symbols of Persian culture in the reliefs of the Roman period. In addition to significant research in this area in recent years, the work deals with an important topic and presents an eloquent detailed discussion to the readers.

The book also employs artistic resources of St. Peter’s Basilica church and is available in three chapters.

The first section illustrates Iranian religions as well as Jesus Christ while the second part deals with unique images of church and Hono Friuss temple on a Roman hill.

The last part explains Michelangelo and Raphael’s artistic creations which are evident in St. Peter’s Basilica church. Both artists used Iranian culture and civilization in constructing the religious building.

Angelo Michele Piemontese, a professor of Persian language and literature, is a prominent orientalist who has written dozens of books in the field of Iranian studies.

Large-scale bibliographic project of Persian manuscripts in Italian libraries and identifying the earliest version of the story collection ‘A Thousand and One Nights’ and ‘Shahnameh’ are among his most remarkable research activities.

He is one of the prominent Iranologists in Italy and one of the founders of ‘Europe’s Iranologists Association’.

Piemontese is among the first scholars to collect Persian manuscripts in Italian museums and libraries and publish them with an interpretation for each. He is also a professor of Persian language in Rome’s Sapienza University.
