President of Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) Aliasghar Amidian met Secretary-General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao on the sidelines of the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-15) held in Geneva, Switzerland.
During the meeting, Amidian conferred with the ITU chief on efficient ways to expand cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the International Telecommunication Union.
“Currently, the ICT is facing new and challenging issues such as the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and OTTs which require appropriate regulations,” he said.
He added that the ITU educational cooperation on these topics as well as the application of other countries’ experiences in the field can pave the way for special cooperation between regulators and the ITU.
“The special aspect of the WRC-15 was that the decisions did not reach a conclusion solely on the basis of voting but rather they were adopted by the consensus of all participating countries,” he said.
The International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) 2015 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-15) took place in Geneva, Switzerland from Nov. 2 to Nov 27.
The four-week conference, attended by roughly 3,300 participants and 162 of the ITU’s 193 member states, made critical decisions regarding the use of spectrum around the world.
Based on conclusions from WRC-15, regulators identified 3.4 to 3.6 GHz to IMT for ITU Region 1, which comprises Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Russia; Region 2, which consists of the Americas; and a handful of countries in Region 3 — the Asia Pacific — which will sign a footnote allowing potential IMT use of these 200 MHz.
