Iran, China discuss scientific, academic coop.

During the meeting, which was held on Tuesday at the Chinese university, the two sides mulled over issues of common interest including development of cooperation between the two countries in various areas like culture, education, science and technology as well as exchange of students.

China’s Lin Jianhua, while expounding on activities of Peking University, said the university’s new policy is to attract more students from the Middle East and Central Asia, Iran in particular.

He noted that funding for scientific research at Peking had become tenfold during the past 25 years 75% of which was supplied by the government and the rest by local governments as well as major companies and industries.

He also voiced eagerness to join hands with Iranian cultural and scientific centers recalling that collaborations could revolve around advantages of the Eastern culture and its promotion.

Later at the meeting, Iran’s FM Zarif welcomed the initiative to deepen scientific and cultural ties commenting that both sides could launch cooperation in various fields such as joint research, science and technology, humanities, religious sciences, language in addition to Persian literature.

He stressed that educational and scientific advancements of Iran and China manifested that several venues existed for mutual cooperation between the two sides.

Mohammad Javad Zarif also presented a report on Iran’s developments in scientific arenas and enumerating roots and causes of these headways including cessation of imports, reliance on domestic knowledge as well as efforts of Iranian researchers and scientists in various fields.

“Needless to say, these measures sparked an unprecedented and eye-catching blooming in Iran’s science and technology giving rise to continuous improvement in very many sectors,” he continued.
