Iran Comes 7th at World Junior, Cadet & U-21 Championships

The Iranian athletes bagged one gold, one silver and eight bronze medals in the competitions held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Mehdi Khodabakhsh, claimed Iran’s eighth bronze in the U-21 Kumite Male -84 kg.

He defeated Pierre Scherman from South Africa and Brian Timmermans from the Netherlands in his first two matches.

Khodabakhsh then beat Daniyar Yuldashev from Kazakhstan and Denmark’s Kevin Korte but lost to Egyptian Ahmed Mohamed in the semi-final.

The Iranian fighter defeated Saudi Arabia’s Ibrahim Nantumi in the bronze medal match.

Fatemeh Sadeghi claimed a silver medal in the Cadet Kumite Female -47kg.

Zohreh Barzegar won a gold medal in the U-21 Kumite Female -55 kg.

Seyed Ali Karimi in the Cadet Kumite Male -57 kg, Karimi, Sara Bahmanyar in the Junior Kumite Female -48 kg, Ali Meskini in the Junior Kumite Male -55 kg, Amir Reza Mirzaei in the Junior Kumite Male -61 kg, Miad Yari in the Kumite Male -60 kg, Aliasghar Asiabari in the Kumite Male -75 kg, Mehdi Ghararizadeh in the Junior Kumite Male -76, and Mehdi Khodabakhsh in the U-21 Kumite Male -84 kg seized eight bronze medals.

The championship hosted 1441 athletes from 91 countries.
