Iran cultural exhibition opened in Brazil coinciding Rio 2016 Games

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by officials of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Iranians residing in Brazil and those interested in Iran's art and culture.

Speaking in the opening ceremony of the event, the Iranian ambassador referred to the country's ancient history and civilization.

'Iran is the cradle of scholars, poets and scientists namely Avicenna, Al-Biruni, Hafez, Omar Khayyam and Ferdowsi who played the major role in the formation and development of the world science and civilization,' said the ambassador.

Iran's cultural exhibition is being held with the contribution of Iran's embassy in Brazil and will be underway to the end of August.

Different aspects of the Iranian art including its handicrafts, hand-woven carpets, pictures and tourism information are put in display in the exhibition.

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games is underway with 10,500 athletes from 205 countries who are to compete in 44 articles of 28 sports fields.

Iran's squad consists of 64 athletes in 14 fields namely boxing, ping pong, shooting, archery, sailing, lifting, track and field, taekwondo, judo, fencing, volleyball, wrestling, swimming and cycling.
