Iran, EU set up roadmap for joint scientific, tech cooperation

The Iranian officials and representative from the EU Secretariat have visited recently at a meeting hosted by Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) to examine ways to advance scientific and technological cooperation in the post sanction era.

'The European Union established a roadmap to implement joint scientific and technological projects from 2014 to 2020 and it has dedicated a budget of 80 billion dollars for this,' Mahmoud Molanejad, IROST Deputy-head, told the Islamic Republic News Agency on Saturday.

'We have already reached an agreement with the Europeans to promote scientific cooperation on 22 spheres,' Molanejad added.

'Since the 22 spheres establish very wide-ranging domains for cooperation, we decided to prioritize them,' he said.

According to the IROST officials, the two side have decided to put first on their cooperation agenda, fields such as, new energies, climate changes, water management, small and medium-sized industries, knowledge-based companies, healthcare, food security and biological control of the diseases.

Some of the other fields agreed upon for joint cooperation between Iran and the EU include, nanotechnology and biotechnology, agriculture, aerospace, bio-economies, the Internet, nuclear science, etc.
