A meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon with attendance of Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi, Iranian deputy science ministers, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder as well as his accompanying delegation.
Farhadi pointed out the long history of scientific relations between Iran and Germany calling for provision of grounds for the presence of the two countries’ scientists in universities and research institutions.
“After signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German sides and by holding a session of Strategic Committee, ways for joint cooperation between Iran and Germany were investigated,” he added.
The Iranian minister underlined that collaborations would not be merely limited to universities or research centers adding “bilateral cooperation can be expanded to knowledge-based companies as well other fields of transferring technology and sharing experiences.”
Also at the meeting, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder welcomed the expansion of bilateral ties in scientific issues asserting “since earlier centuries, Europe has taken advantage of Iran’s medical science and there exist numerous ways of running scientific cooperation between the two countries’ higher education institutions which can be conducted in the form joint workshops in universities and knowledge-based firms.”
“For instance, in the sector of health and sanitation, accredited German companies may produce the best medical and treatment equipment in cooperation with Iranian side,” stressed the German official.
He concluded that “generally the German government is interested to expand and strengthen joint scientific and technology cooperation between the two countries.”
