Iran, Greece to sign MoU to boost cultural ties

Katerina Balamoti told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Friday that Iran and Greece have taken big steps toward boosting cultural relations.

'The Greek Prime Minister was the first European leader to visit Iran after the nuclear agreement, and the two countries have opened the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, and signed a memordandum of understanding on the sidelines of the International Fajr Festival,' she said.

Iran and Greece both have ancient civilizations and they share lots of cultural and social commonalities, Balamoti said.

She, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 31st Tehran International Book Fair, also expressed excitement that 'lots of Greek poems and tales that are not easy to translate, have been converted to Persian.'

Tehran International Book Fair, spanning an area of 130,000 square meters, was opened to public on May 2 and will run until May 12. A number of publishers from Germany, China, Italy, Oman, Hungary, Austria, Russia and Iraq are also presenting their books in the fair.
