Al-Mustafa International University’s branch in Senegal hosted the three-day workshop, the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) reported.
ICRO’s cultural deputy also collaborated in holding the event, whose motto was "Quranic diplomacy”.
23 Quran experts from 14 provinces of the West African country took part in the workshop.
Iranian Quran master and prominent Qari Majid Zakilu was the instructor and discussed different aspects of the science of Tajweed and the 8 Naghmas (melodies) in Quran recitation.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the workshop, Seyed Hassan Esmati, Iran’s cultural attaché in Senegal, and Sheikh Mustafa Lu, president of the Association of Senegal’s National Quranic Schools, underlined the important status of the Quran in the unity of the Muslim Ummah and voiced readiness for continuation of such joint programs.
Islam is the predominant religion in Senegal, a country in West Africa with a population of around 14.5 million. 92 percent of its population is estimated to be Muslim.
