Iran to host World Energy Congress for 1st time

'The World Energy Congress is held annually in different countries at two national and international levels at the end of which the winners of green prizes are introduced and awarded,' said Shima Ostovar, the secretary of Executive Committee of the WEC in an interview with IRNA on Tuesday.
She said that the national section of the 2016 WEC, which will be held from January 19-20 in Tehran's Milad Tower, will be participated by the Iranian foundations and organizations that have throughout the year received environment-friendly awards.
'They will be praised and will also receive the WEC prizes of the year,' added Ms. Ostovar, elaborating that the prizes are provided by the WEC, the EU Greens Management and the Organization of the Iranian Greens.
She said that simultaneous with the national section of the WEC, its international section will be held in the presence of representatives of green parties from 140 to 200 countries.
Ostovar said that the countries that have managed to receive the WEC prizes throughout the year will in the ceremony be introduced to the world and praised.
The secretary of Executive Committee of the WEC said that various countries have been surveyed from the viewpoint of their wise usage of water, soil, energy, air and the youth in order to be judged and nominated for receiving appropriate prizes.
The World Energy Council is the principal impartial network of leaders and practitioners promoting an affordable, stable and environmentally sensitive energy system for the greatest benefit of all.
Formed in 1923, the Council is the UN-accredited global energy body, representing the entire energy spectrum, with more than 3000 member organizations located in over 90 countries and drawn from governments, private and state corporations, academia, NGOs and energy-related stakeholders.
The World Energy Council informs global, regional and national energy strategies by hosting high-level events, publishing authoritative studies, and working through its extensive member network to facilitate the world’s energy policy dialogue.
