Iran Invites Neighbors to Build ‘Peace, Friendship Parks’

Head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar made the remarks in a Saturday meeting here with the Secretary of Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme Han Qunli and Esther Kuisch Laroche, the Director of the UN Educational, Social and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Cluster Office in Tehran.  
During the meeting, Iran submitted a report on inscribed regions in UNESCO as biosphere reserves and underscored the register of Hamoun wetlands located in the Sistan region of eastern Iran and western Afghanistan as the new site for the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programe.  
Ebtekar also expressed Iran’s readiness to establish Peace and Friendship Parks with neighboring countries including Armenia, Turkmenistan, Iraq and Afghanistan, adding "we expect regional organizations such as the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and international ones such as UNESCO to play a more effective role in this regard.”
The establishment of Hamoun Biosphere Reserve has recently been approved by the national committee of Man and and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme and submitted to UNESCO to be registered as a World Heritage site.
