Iran, Pakistan Opt for Boosting Academic Cooperation

During the meeting in Quetta, Rafiyee and Iqbal voiced the two countries' readiness to exchange university students and cooperate in other areas related to academic cooperation.

Iqbal voiced readiness for dispatching students at various levels to the universities to Iranian Sistan-Baluchestan province to complete their dissertations.

He noted that Two memoranda of understanding were signed nine years ago by the universities but they have not been implemented for various reasons.

Balouchistan University is the biggest university in the Pakistani province which houses 80 faculties. It has a greater department of 'Iranian Studies'.

Rafiyee described meeting with Iqbal as useful, hoping that effective measures would be taken in the fields of exchange of student and instructors and advanced activities of the Persian Language Department.

In relevant remarks in June, Pakistani Information and Broadcasting Minister Pervaiz Rashid called for broadening of mutual cooperation with Iran, specially in media fields.

"There is a need for exchange of media delegations, so that both countries could learn from each other experiences," Rashid said.

He reiterated that Pakistan believes that enhanced media connections between Iran and Pakistan would further reinforce and consolidate the already strong bonds between the two friendly countries.

"Media can be an effective tool in progress of people and also remove misconceptions between the two countries to build better understanding on matters of that could benefit both countries," Rashid added.
