Iran ranks 4th in world in web hosting

Ali Asghar Ansari, manager of network development of the Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITC), told Mehr News that currently Iran holds the first place in web hosting in the Middle East and North Africa, with Turkey and Egypt ranking second and third.

Ansari added that Iran ranks fourth in the world by hosting 65 percent of popular Iranian sites used by Iranian Netizens.

He maintained that website owners have shown interest for being hosted inside the country due to the policies of ITC Ministry for supporting internet servers as well as being cost-efficient.

Ansari noted that some datacenters established by the Information Technology Organization of Iran is in contact with the center for Internet exchange point (IXP) and some are locally active; “one of the benefits of domestic datacenters for content providers is that they can directly connect to the IXP port.”

According to Internet World Stats (IWS), as of December 2014, 57.2% of the population in Iran are internet users.
