Iran ranks first in kidney transplant in Middle East

Dr. Behzad Einollahi told the press conference that there are now 25,000 patients under dialyses treatment in Iran, and that Iranian sergeants have thus far transplanted over 35,000 kidneys.

Highlighting the high number of kidney transplants in Iran, he said that Iran is even far ahead of Turkey, which ranks first in scientific progress in the region.

Einollahi noted that the period that the patients need to wait for a kidney transplant is relatively low in Iran, as the donated kidneys come either from brain-dead donors, or from volunteers, which is on average six months today.

He noted that there are more than 26 centers for kidney transplants, many of them are in different Iranian provinces and many more centers that can offer after-surgery care to the patients.

The 1st International Nephrology and Urology Congress will be held in Tehran from June 10 to 12 in the presence of dozens of top Iranian and foreign specialists in the field from Spain, Belgium, Britain, Greece, the Czech Republic, and France.
