Iran Ready to Help Brazil in Ensuring Security during 2016 Olympics: Police Chief

In a Monday meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador to Tehran Santiago Irazabal Mourao, Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari praised the police cooperation in the 2014 world cup and said Tehran is willing to promote security ties with Brasilia.

“In the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s police participated in (the security measures adopted for) the games with its high capacity and in cooperation with the Interpol… which was a good example of police cooperation between the two countries,” he noted.

Earlier in June, Reuters quoted a source familiar with the preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games as saying that Brazil plans to deploy around 60,000 security forces to Rio de Janeiro, bolstering security amid fears of a spike in violence in the picturesque city.

The Iranian commander further pointed to the country’s achievements in its campaign against terrorism and organized crimes, saying that the Iranian police force has good experience in this area and is prepared for any kind of cooperation with Brazil.
